VIDEO CREW
Northwestern nw7tv School Tube Page
The Northwestern Middle School Video Crew is a co-curricular opportunity for students to learn video production, editing, and live television broadcast. Through mini-grants and fundraising we have purchased iMac computers, video cameras, tripods, and software. We are in our third year of existence at Northwestern and we have grown in our technological capabilities each year.

Our goal is to produce a quality television show for kids, by kids. Using digital video technology, our students will eventually broadcast a daily news program throughout the school. Currently we have aired two broadcasts a week. Students learn the entire process of creating live television and communicate events, both curricular and extra-curricular, going on in the school community. The entire middle school student community views our broadcasts and this fosters a sense of school pride, unity, and community throughout Northwestern Middle School.
In addition to our television broadcasts the Video Crew produces an annual video yearbook. This highlights the many activities both in and out of the classroom at Northwestern. This past year's video yearbook included video and slideshows that filled up three DVD's. The Video Crew sells the video yearbook for just $15. All funds raised then go into purchasing additional video equipment. We are currently working on building a new green screen in our small corner studio and on raising funds to install better quality lights.

The 2008-2009 video yearbook is in production. Order forms will be distributed shortly for students to order their 2008-2009 video yearbook. The cost is just $15 (checks made out to "Northwestern") and orders should be brought to Mr. Stapleton in room #321. We have a special offer available to 8th Graders this year as well. We will be creating a special DVD of the 8th grade dinner / dance cruise. We will sell copies of that DVD for just $10. You can order both the 08-09 Video Yearbook and the 09 8th Grade Cruise DVD for just $20. BE SURE TO ORDER YOUR 2008-2009 VIDEO YEARBOOK AND YOUR 8TH GRADE CRUISE DVDS!
Benefits for Participating Students:
Television production encourages appropriate integration of technology, including use of the Internet, software applications and technical equipment. It provides a real and authentic audience for creative production in the school community and supports and encourages career connections in a variety of fields, including journalism, multimedia, photography, technology, and public service. Students are continually required to work collaboratively, to read and write, to perform tasks, to inform, to persuade, and to interpret, analyze, and evaluate data. One of the students in the crew put is simply, “it is just a lot of fun!”
Benefits for the School and Community:
The broadcast highlight and encourage learning, both curricular and extra-curricular. Many of Northwestern's students and their accomplishments will be featured on the television broadcast. Students will have their schoolwork, projects, performances, and extra-curricular activities highlighted for the entire school community. The broadcast inspires classroom learning and impacts student achievement. Ultimately, we hope to establish the ability to offer these broadcasts as pod-casts that will be recorded and uploaded to a server. Students, parents, and community members could receive a daily download of the broadcast. This will reach several thousand-community members and will foster a stronger, more involved community.
