WELCOME TO TEAM ENTERPRISE SOCIAL STUDIES!!!!
HAPPY SUMMER! GOOD LUCK IN 9TH GRADE!
Have a huge test or quiz coming up???? Don't know how to begin to study for it???? Take a look at the following site for helpful hints when it comes to test taking. www.freewebs.com/dwilbur/testtakingstrategies.htm
Course Overview:
The American Experience is a highly interactive course that allows all eighth graders to experience the democratic process. In this course students will:
- Survey the exciting events leading to the American Revolution
- Recreate the famous trial of the "Boston Massacre"
- Engage in the issues that confronted the framers of the Declaration of Independence
- Debate and articulate student Constitutions
Fortified with an understanding of the cause for a democratic government students will:
- Engage in the legislative process. Students will research and construct their own bills and then have to present their bills and persuade their peers to pass the bill through the eighth grade Senate.
- Examine how courts work to protect citizen's rights against abusive governments while engaging in a Mock Supreme Court and investigate the jury system
Finally, students will study the African American Experience and the African American struggle to reach the "American Dream" of freedom and equality.
Additional notes and helpful hints.
Any missing Test of Quizzes due to students absenses must be made up within one week otherwise the Test/Quiz grade will be recorded as a Zero. (When students take too much time to make up a missed test/quiz they tend to forget the information.) Please arrange to make up tests/quizzes and if you need longer than a week please come and talk to me. Reasonable exceptions can be made.
