Overview of Curriculum This Week:
In English class students will be introduced to our word study, ie. individualized spelling focus. Students will begin to read and respond to examples of narrative writing, narratives. Included will be special excerpts from the story collection, "Dear Bully." Students will also begin grammar study of writing forceful sentences and how to correct run on sentences. Students will engage in pre-writing exercises to identify memoir topics for their first published piece.
In math class we will, on Monday, be reviewing for the first large quiz on sections 1.1-1.4 in chapter 1, followed by the quiz on Tuesday. For the remainder of the week, we will be continuing with chapter 1, with a review of perimeter and area and looking at solving problems using defined problem-solving strategies.
In reading class we will begin working on Reading Strategies. Students will also begin writing Reader Responses.... and the Word Stem Study begins!!!
In science class students will be taking their first vocabulary quiz on Monday. We will continue working with energy and energy transformations.
